Using this website
First choose the unit you want to work on from the menu at the top of the page.
The menu on the right is organised into four sections:
- General - read these pages FIRST for details of how to complete the
unit.
- Tasks - these are the online worksheets. Work through the tasks in
order.
- Assessment Objectives - this is the mark scheme. You do not have
to use these pages, but they can provide extra information to those aiming
for the higher grades.
- Other stuff - anything else that may be useful for this unit is included
here.
The tasks only show the basic work required in order to get a PASS grade, which
is of equivalent status to a 'C' grade GCSE.
You will also see the words "Merit" and "Distinction". Clicking
on these will cause extra information to appear with guidance on how to achieve
a merit or distinction. Try it out now:
+ Merit
Well done, you have revealed information on how to get a merit (a grade B) for your work!

Any questions?
+ What are OCR Nationals?
They are work-related learning qualifications that provide learners with a taste of a vocational area, without restricting their future options. These high-quality, industry-recognised certificates are geared to vocational sector requirements, enabling learners to develop relevant skills and knowledge.
+ What are the benefits of OCR Nationals?
-
They offer a fresh approach to learning as students can study at their own
pace.
-
Learners receive certificates for individual units, and full qualifications
for a valid combination of units, meaning they can gain recognition for
their achievements as they progress.
-
They enable learners to develop their vocational skills, knowledge and understanding,
giving real workplace knowledge, using current laws and real examples from
each sector.
-
They provide a stepping stone to future career success as learners will gain
an in-depth insight and will be well placed to continue in that sector.
OCR Nationals are industry-recognised and provide a real understanding of
work.
+ How are they assessed?
Assessment of coursework is done by your teacher and other ICT teachers and externally moderated by a visiting OCR Moderator. The Visiting Moderator will attend at a time that suits the school.
+ Do I have to do everything at merit/distinction level to get an overall merit/distinction?
No:- You must complete everything at pass level in order to pass the unit. However, to achieve a merit, you must complete most things at merit level. This is the same for distinction - the examiner is looking at what is the 'best fit' for your work. Marking is done on your whole portfolio against the Assessment Objectives. You will receive a pass, merit or distinction for each Assessment Objective. Your final grade will be an average of these grades eg if you achieve one distinction, three merits and two passes, you will receive an overall merit.
+ What options are available in further education with this qualification?
These qualifications have been designed to aid progression to GCE ICT or GCE Computing. They will also provide a basis for progression to other qualifications at Level 3 of the National Qualifications Framework.
+ How long does the course take to complete?
The suggested guided learning hours for the National First Award in ICT is 90
hours. This equates to approximately 7 terms of school time. You will be
given this amount of class time in order to complete the course. However, there
will not be additional class time available so you should make full use of every
lesson you attend. The course allows students to progress at their own pace.
This means that you will have the opportunity to gain a better qualification
for completing additional units.
+ How much help will I get from my tutor?
Your tutor will help you when completing your portfolios and will make sure that you understand what you need to do and what you should hand in. It is your responsibility to read the tasks carefully and make sure you understand what you need to do.
+ Can I copy other people's work?
No:- your work must be your own. You should never copy the work of another student or allow other students to copy your work. Any information that you use from other sources (such as the Internet or a book) must be clearly identified and not presented as your own work. Copy another person's work could result in both people failing to pass the course.
